Photography is definitely something I have always loved doing. My dad gave me my first SLR film camera when I was 14 and I took pictures of everything. When I was 19 I left home and got a job as a runner in a Post Production house in Soho, London. I worked my way up the ranks and became a Video Editor. I worked on TV shows, commercials and films and met lots of cool people. I really enjoyed the social side but the work itself didn't excite me. What I enjoyed more was filming and editing my partner Toby's motorbike racing videos, (we used to go racing almost every weekend)!
In 2001 Toby and I left England to go travelling. I spent that next year taking pictures all around S.E.Asia. After travelling, we ended up in Sydney for a couple of years, then in late 2003 we moved to New Zealand. Those first few years I worked as an online editor at TVNZ making TV shows. The end of the week would come and we'd more often than not spend the weekend at any one of NZ's many motorbike racetracks, Toby raced and I filmed and took photos. It was at this point I knew that my love for sports photography was born. It was a match made in heaven for Toby and I, both being able to do what we loved - together!
In 2008 our lives changed forever - we had our first child, a little girl, followed in 2010 by another. Fair to say at this point my photography took a change in direction. From motorbikes to kids and it was at this time that I realised that my passion for photography wasn't just for sport, I actually loved taking photos of people as well!
After spending 7 years at home raising my girls I knew that once they were both at school it was time to go back to work. I also knew that going back to a job that I didn't LOVE was never going to be an option so at the beginning of race season 2014, (girls a bit older and not needing my constant supervision) I decided to start taking photos at the track again, this time of the people and not so much the bikes. I took candid, natural shots of all the riders and behind the scenes in the pit area. The response was HUGE and Mad Love Media was born.
'Mad Love' to me equals passion which can relate to anything and 'Media' because I don't just take photos... I can film and edit too.
It has taken me a while to accept that what I see through the lens is not the same as what most other people see. I see beauty in most things, I love light, colour, compostion, shadows and definitely raw emotion, I basically love taking pictures of life as it is, as it happens. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE taking photos and feel blessed to be in a position where I can do something that makes people smile (or cry) every time. Capturing people at their most natural is what I do best. I document events in their truest most natural form. I defy anyone that says they are not photogenic, we are all beautiful, let me take your pic to prove it!
I am currently working an exciting new venture and will be sharing it with you all very soon. So if you'd like me to take some photos of you or some photos for you please don't hesitate to get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you.
