I’ve been entering photo comps since 2015, purely for fun. I love the thrill of the competition, being inspired by everyone’s work and having my photos critiqued. The anticipation of whether my work will be deemed award-worthy keeps me coming back. I’m very competitive and always aim to improve on previous years. I enter comps purely for myself. I love that when time allows, it pushes me to think about what photos I’m taking. Although I mostly always agree with what the judges say about my work, I take it with a grain of salt, I can handle the good and the bad. Some highlights over the years include being a documentary finalist in 2023 (Sport sits in Doco) and a wedding finalist in 2020. The awards that I enter are the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography’s Iris awards. I am yet to win overall but I will keep on trying.
